Dressing down may cause you to lose a star client?

This could be you. First impressions are important and your attire is a big portion of the professional image that you portray. If you want successful clients to use your services, you should give attention to the clothing that you wear Every Day! Friday may be that critical day you meet your next big customer.
You know; the one who will not only purchase your services, but will also refer you to all of his/her wealthy friends and associates. Just because all the techno-nerds from the dot-com boom of the 90's decided that wardrobe, appearance, and fashion were not important to their success, you should not ignore the effect it may have on your success. Your appearance and your lasting image will be dependent on those brief encounters that you have with your potential clients or customers. This video demonstrates well what may happen to you if you give in to the trendy fashion dictates of other business segments. If you are a professional service provider, you need to look like a pro as much as you perform like one. Sometimes Casual may be OK .....


The work at home trend has created Casual Everyday. There are some proponents of working naked. If you are one of those lucky people that can work from home, you may want to consider this alternative. Although I do not recommend it, I suggest your work performance (even when nobody can see you) is affected by your work habits and your attire where-ever you are. Working from home is probably the only time casual wear should be used while performing your professional duties. Getting out of bed and fully dressing to go to work will put you in a positive results frame of mind. You will work better if you dress better. Working from home does not give you a pass in the self-awareness and personal pride department. You can have Casual Everyday at home, but if you need to step out and meet a client somewhere, I suggest you dress appropriately for the meeting. First impressions are still valid perceptions that may determine others level of trust in you.



Can self-expression through your attire help or hinder your opportunities?

It can when you need the new customers. People still judge others by their look and their actions. To be on top of the game, you need to be on top of your image. After you've made your first billion dollars, you can wear anything you want and get away with it. You might even get on the front cover of Time Magazine wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
